My apologies for making this more complicated than it should be, but I was just introduced to a new website that will hopefully be easier to use as well as more organized. The new website will be found at arlanamuller.weebly.com. There will also be a link for it on the Gillam School website.
Just a reminder that this is the last week for students to get their assignments in. I will be at the school over lunch on Wednesday and Friday for them to stay on work on any assignments that they need to complete.

Homework at Lunch
Good afternoon! I hope you have all been having a wonderful week and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather in some way!
Because we do not have school on Friday, I will be staying here tomorrow (Thursday) at lunch. All students are welcome to stay, but make sure they bring a lunch so they will have enough energy to make it through the day. :)
Next week I will stay in on Wednesday and Friday again.
Just to remind you, there will be an early dismissal on Tuesday, February 2nd. The grade 5 class will be walking over to the Rec Center right after lunch to watch the high school hockey class play the RCMP officers. You are welcome to join us as well.
If you would like to order a yearbook this year, forms/an email should also be going out next week, so keep your eyes open!

Observing the Weather
Because we are studying weather right now, I want the students to gain some experience checking the weather. I have sent home a chart for them to fill out over 6 days. I have included an example day, but they will need to fill out the
- date/time
- temperature
- precipitation
- wind direction
- wind speed
- cloud type
- other observations
Some of this information can be gathered from there observations, but others will have to be gathered from a secondary source, such as The Weather Network (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/canada/manitoba/gillam). I told them that if they do not have access to the internet or any other way to get this information to talk to me and we will gather the information at the beginning or end of the day, or during a break.

Happenings and Homework
Good afternoon! I hope everyone has had a great start to their weeks!
I will be having a homework time on Wednesdays & Fridays at lunch from now until February 5th. Your children are welcome to eat their lunches here on those days that they will be staying! If something comes up where I will not be able to make it one day, I will be sure to give them the message.
We will have our Winter Formal dance on Friday ( from 7:30-9). It is a Fire and Ice theme so, if they have, girls wear blue and boys wear red. Entry is $5 or $4 with canned food.
There will be a popcorn sale on Friday for $1/ bag.
We have been working on clouds in science and the students have some questions that are now for homework for tomorrow.

Concluding Week 2
It's crazy to think that we have already finished 2 weeks since the holidays! We finished this week off with the grade 5's joining the 6's, 7's and 8's to share the poems and compositions they made during 'Artist in the School'. There were some amazing poems that were shared during this time together!
There are a number of students that have outstanding assignments, including a couple art assignments, chemical & physical changes worksheets, Plains Cree stories, as well as drawing the water cycle. Since report cards are coming up again very soon, I will not be accepting these assignments after February 5th. I do plan on having a couple lunch time/after school homework sessions between now and then, and I will keep both you and the students posted on when these times will be.
One more reminder that grade 5 trip forms are due on MONDAY FEBRUARY 18th. Be sure to sign them before then, even if your child does not plan on going. I will pass them on!

Rules, Artists, and Notes
We had a great day today. The class came up with class rules they would like to have for the 2016 year and this is what they came up with. You should be proud of them!
- no violence & bullying
- respect everything (theirs, others, classroom)
- respect everyone (including themselves)
- do not speak out of turn
- no sugary stuff in class
- no littering
- don't start fires
- no gossiping
- stack chairs up at the end of the day
- be prepared for class
This week we also have an artist in the school. The students have been busy learning about poems and have started writing their own as a class.
I sent home a letter with the students regarding the grade 5 trip. Please have them signed and returned no later than Monday, January 18th so I can pass them on to Allison Steedsman!
In science, we have started the unit on weather. In this unit, they will be designing their own weather instruments (rain gauge, wind vane, anemometer, etc.). They are to use as many recyclable materials as possible when making their creations. Some students have already started brainstorming some ideas, however, they do have until the end of the unit to complete a written plan and to create it.

Welcome Back
Welcome back, I hope you have all had a wonderful break!
I will be using this blog to communicate what is going on in the school and classroom, including different homework assignments that the kids will have. My goal is to write a post every week as well as the days students are assigned homework.
My intention is not to use this blog in place of the students' agendas, but as a supplement to them just in case they do forget them in school. Please continue to ask them what they have been doing in school!
If you do have any questions about any of the posts, feel free to either comment on the post, send me an email, or call the school. I hope this blog will be beneficial in keeping you informed with what is going on around the school. Please let me know if you have any concerns!
